The Amber Moon Studio universe is expanding!!! (yes, still!)

Amber Moon Studio is proud to announce 2 more staff, Lisa Pruett and Carly Ryan. I’ve got 1 more person that i’ll be introducing in the next few weeks as well.

If ever a “mini me” there was – it’s Lisa! She’s been my training partner (strength training & triathlon), taken her AFAA Personal Training Certification & various other workshops under me, and has, hence, been heavily influenced by the way I think (and she’s extremely creative on her own). She’s already picked up several clients at Amber Moon Studio, and I look forward to her continued dedication to this grand adventure!
Hello Everyone, my name is Lisa and I truly look forward to working with you through Amber Moon Studio. I have participated in numerous road races, cycling events, marathons, and recently, an Iron Man. The one constant I have taken away from my participation in these events is that there is nothing like the joy and excitement of setting a fitness goal and successfully reaching that goal. At Amber Moon Studio it will be my pleasure to help you do the same, whether you choose to train for a 5k, an Iron Man, or a crazy off road obstacle race like the Tough Mudder. No fitness goal is too small or too big. And, once that goal is reached, guess what, there’s always something new to look forward too! Let’s reach for your fitness dream and beyond.

Obstacle Course Training

Martial Arts Madness
Are you looking for a way to strengthen and tone your body, shape your butt, tighten your core and improve your cardiovascular system? Try Lisa’s Martial Arts Madness. Lisa is a black belt in Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do and uses the kicks, punches, stances, and strength building exercises of this martial art to create a powerful and explosive work out that gets great results fast. Through the end of 2010, $40/session.

I’ve worked with Carly at a senior residence, where we specifically focused on Pilates and practical training for the 80+ year old residents. There were lots of specialized programs in Pilates, balance training, training for osteoporisis, healthy shoulders, and posture. I’m bring Carly in to help me with the clients that need a more medical basis/rehabilitative quality to their training programs, both Pilates & personal training. 

The best part about being a personal trainer is being able to help clients reach their goals – either being fit enough to play with a family member or completing a race or new challenge. My philosophy is to help you reach those goals without injury. I appreciate that Amber Moon Studio focuses on the individual needs of each client so that you get the best results.
I have been in the fitness industry since 2002 and teach anything but dance classes. Some of my clients include triathletes, pre- and post- joint replacement (Aqua and Pilates equipment), and anyone looking to improve their health. There are several clients that have trained with me for over 5 years. I believe in continuing education and have been accepted to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Texas Woman’s University beginning Fall 2011. I set personal and professional goals and have completed a marathon and several sprint triathlons. I look forward to helping you reach your own fitness milestones.

Holiday hints from the Amber Moon Studio staff – how we manage to make it through the holidays… and maybe they’ll help you too!

1. Turn off the computer/tv/electronics early (8p for me). Spend some quality mind-stilling time reading something light (instead of the book that keeps you fascinated and entranced until 2a…). This helps quiet the mind, reduce your mental scatter, and allows you to drift more easily into sleep.
2. Say “no.” Pick and choose what holiday events you attend.
3. Get up and move – be active, do something. Doesn’t have to be formal exercise, it just has to be non-sedentary.
4. Get into the spirit of the holidays. Spend time with people instead of money on people.
5. Make quality time for yourself and your pets.

Food is everywhere during the holiday season, making it tough to stick to your healthful eating and exercise habits. With a little attention, however, you can make it through the holidays without losing track of your healthy lifestyle.
Here are 5 Tips to help you have a Healthy Holiday Season:
- Survey the entire table before you take any food. Decide what foods are worth eating and what can be ignored, and then stick to that decision. Why waste calories on foods that don’t bring you pleasure?
- When you are the host or hostess, include nutritious and lower-calorie foods like fruits, vegetables, and lean meats on the menu. When you are a guest, bring along a lower-calorie dish to share.
- Try not to hang out near the food. Find a comfortable spot across the room and focus on people instead of eating.
- Sip a large glass of water between every alcoholic drink or non-alcoholic punch or eggnog. This will help keep you hydrated and you’ll drink fewer calories by the end of the night.
- And remember, enjoy your favorite holiday treats but take a small portion. Eat slowly, and savor the taste and texture of the wonderful foods of the season!

1. Enjoy outside time with the weather.
2. Bake goodies for friends and relatives – even better if you do it with a friend.
3. Light candles with your favorite scents.
4. Exercise – if you are a runner this is a great time to enjoy the fact that it’s not 100 degrees!
5. Denial works best for me. I’m told “compartmentalization” is a nicer term.
New offerings at Amber Moon Studio
WellWorld: a 2 month program that will give you the ability to change your life. Its almost time for those New Years’ Resolutions to be made. Did you keep the one from last year? Let us help you do whatever it is you want (health, fitness or wellness related) this year. This unique program has 1) a weekly group meeting to help you figure out what you want and gain social support, 2) 30 min sessions each week with a Wellness Coach to define your goals, realize your barriers to these goals, and come up with a plan to take the barriers down, and 3) a 30 min session of your choice: massage, personal training, Pilates, yoga… you get to decide! What best serves you? Watch for this program to be offered on Austintatious! We’re still in the organizing stages, but please let us know if you are interested!
Pilates semi-private sessions on the NEW equipment, plus on the existing toys. 2 people being trained at together – bring a friend, try it out! Introductory Price: 4 sessions package, $99.00 per person. Regular price will be $139.oo as of February 1, 2011. Prepay for as many partner packages as you like. New Pilates equipment is on the way! I’ve ordered a STOTT Pilates® V2max Rehab Reformer, due to arrive in December. Amber Moon Studio will also be relocating toward the end of December. Watch your email for more information.

Please remember, and be kind to your massage therapist & trainer. We deal with several clients a day, and if someone comes in sick, this means not only the possibility of the staff getting sick, but our other clients as well. Even though we wash/sanitize our hands regularly before, during & after sessions, some germs just don’t give up. If one of us catches it, we may be unable to help those that need ourservices. Please be pro-active! We will reschedule you at the next available slot. Thanks.
If you need to cancel your appointment, please try to give at least 24 hours of notice, although we do understand that there are times last minute emergencies happen.
Water! Amber Moon Studio has bottled water in the frig for all our clients when you come for your session – especially after massages. If we forget to offer you a bottle, please feel free to ask! You can also ask for one anytime you are here.

I (Sharon) have worked weekends for the past 19 years (and still do 1x/mo); I want my weekends off to play triathlete!
