You are what you…

  • Live - How have you decided to live your life? Are you a couch potato? Are you on the go all the time? Do you live for your family without giving yourself enough time?  Do you take time for staying healthy, for getting away from the job(s), or do people define you by what you do (which is perfectly okay with me in my case!)?  Most importantly, at least from my point of view, are you living a life that you love?  Its seems like people get stuck sometimes, and they need help moving forward.  This newsletter is offering a few areas that you might want to look into to help improve the quality of your life, help you stick to the values that are important to you, or at least get you thinking about how you are living.  Everyone can have a positive influence on the world around him/her.
  • Read – When was the last time you read something out of your normal genre?  Reading a vareity of materials from different authors or viewpoints helps expand your horizon, your vocubulary and your mind. I admit, I’ve been stuck in Star Wars mode on occasion (I realize this surprises you), and honestly just need a break from SciFi on occasion… so I read books that other people hand me; my sister gives me oddities; I read things I’m interested in (mind-body, holistic healing, SciFi, yoga, energy work); I read to keep me up to date on the world (The Week).  I choose to read positive things. I choose to read educational things.  What have you chosen to read lately? What have you read that challenged your preconceptions, broadened your horizons?
  • Spend - What does how you spend your money and where you spend your money say about you?  Personally, I choose to spend my money at local Austin entities whenever possible, so I support Austin business, and not the comglomerates that have no idea what living in Austin is about.  I choose to spend my money at small locally owned businesses, like myself.  Do you only buy high-end clothes/goods, or will the ones that are reasonably priced but of good quality suffice?  Do you spend your money on a name brand because that is “Better”? It might be. It might not be. It might just be more expensive.  I also choose to spend my money where I get excellent customer service, even if it costs me a little bit more. Being in a very customer service oriented industry, this is of the utmost importance to me!
  • Think - Have you ever really paid attention to the inner dialogue that goes on in your head? Yes, those voices.  Next time you are having one of those internal conversations, notice how you phrase things. Notice how you phrase things when you have conversations with other people.  How you think, & what you think, has a huge influence on your attitude and on whether people want to be around you.  Let’s take Mondays as an example.  Most people hate Mondays. Why? Variety of reasons. So if you hate Mondays, guess what, Mondays are gonna suck.  Now, let’s change how you look at Mondays… let’s say instead: Mondays are a challenge. You get to work on switching from play mode (the weekend) to being in a structured job/week/school/whatever.   If you perceive Mondays as a challenge (and you’ll need to like challenges for this to work), then it becomes a positive entity.  You can meet and overcome the challenge of Monday.   Other common internal conversations you might want to be aware of and work on editing: “That was stupid”, ” I can’t do it”, “its a bad day.”  Guess what – if you think these things, you are, you can’t, and you’re right. Need help changing your thoughts and your perceptions? Lifestyle Wellness Coaching might be for you! PS – I love Mondays!

Everything under the Moon

I’ve got an aloe plant with 6 starts coming off it, varying sizes. Anyone that wants to help me repot the mother plant can have 1 or 2 of the starts. She’s big enough that 1 person doing the job is tough and a little prickly!

Amber Moon Studio will be closed on Labor Day and Sept 23-27.

Sharon’s Swimmers! I’ve got a separate email list going for those of you that swim, are learning to swim, and are thinking about learning to swim. I forward articles of interest, as well as helpful tips as I find them. Email me if you’re not already on the e-list and want to be. If you have Amber Moon Studio “Liked” on Facebook, I also post all of these articles & bits on there. Ok, I post them more frequently on there.

Upcoming Athletic Events (by no means all that’s going on) – Remember the Athlete’s Special when you are prepping for your race!

Please remember, and be kind to your massage therapist. I deal with several clients a day, and if someone comes in sick, this means not only the possibility of me getting sick, but my other clients as well. Even though I wash/sanitize my hands regularly before, during & after sessions, some germs just don’t give up. If I catch it, I will be unable to help those that need my services. Please be pro-active! Thanks.

If you need to cancel your appointment, please try to give at least 24 hours of notice, though I do understand that there are times last minute emergencies happen.

News from other realms of the Galaxy

You are what you wear… What is your work-out wardrobe saying about you? For instance, have your workouts paid off and now all of your workout clothes are too big? Saggy, baggy clothes can give the impression those extra pounds are still hidden under there somewhere. Streamline. Think thin and look thin in some sleek new capris or some sexy running shorts.  Show off that bod you’ve worked so hard to get! And some of us have a tendency to stick to what we know and love….even if its a decade or two out-of-date. Modernize your look by updating your fitness outfits. Show the world your passion for fitness with a hot pink sports bra and matching black and pink shorts. Having new clothes to work-out in can often give us incentive to lace up those shoes and go to the gym or hit the hike and bike trail just to show them off! Phoenix Clothing offers fun, affordable clothing for women, men and kids. We offer brand name items, at thrift store prices. Pants, tops, shorts, dresses, jeans, swim suits, bras, cycling, fitness, triathlon, even Maternity wear. You wear it, Phoenix Clothing has it, or will take requests to get what you need. Look for Phoenix Clothing on Facebook  and on ebay: phoenixresale06.

You are what you eat… Get ready to learn some interesting facts on magnesium and where to find this magnificent mineral.

Why is magnesium important? It is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. In addition to maintaining normal muscle and nerve function, it supports a steady heart rhythm and a healthy immune system. It is also important for strong bones, steady blood sugar and normal blood pressure. With all of these functions, it is no wonder that it has roles in preventing and managing diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and high blood pressure.  If you are what you eat and you aren’t eating enough magnesium, you may experience loss of appetite, fatigue and weakness, muscle cramps or numbness and tingling. Optimal sources of magnesium include:  Apricots, bananas, nuts, wheat bran, whole grains, seafood, soybeans and dark green vegetables.

Have more questions on magnesium or another vitamin or mineral?  Contact Amanda Fearheiley, RD, LD at 512-745-3946 or fearheileyrd@yahoo.com
